About

Meet Kayla Wright

Rooted in Our Community. Ready to Deliver Results.
Hi, I’m Kayla Wright. As a lifelong resident of St. Louis Park and Edina, my roots run deep in State Senate District 46. I am a proud graduate of St. Louis Park High School and a former student of the University of Minnesota. Today, I live in Edina and am the proud mother of two adult daughters.
I am running for the State Senate because Minnesota is off track. Runaway spending and poor policy choices are hurting the state we love. Like many of you, my political journey evolved as the parties shifted. I was a registered Democrat until a few years ago, when I realized the DFL no longer represented my core principles. Today, my values align firmly with the Republican party — focusing on common sense, fiscal duty, and real results.

My Priorities for Minnesota

Restoring Excellence in Education
Fund Classrooms, Not Bureaucracy and radical ideologies.
We spend too much on school administration and not enough on actual teaching.

Demand Accountability:
Despite claims that education is fully funded, schools constantly ask taxpayers for more money. We must audit where that money goes.

Focus on the Basics:
I will work across the aisle to cut waste and ensure our schools prioritize core academic skills: reading, writing, and math.

Prioritizing Public Safety
Enforce Existing Laws:
We must enforce the laws already on the books before creating new ones.

Support Law Enforcement:
Our communities need adequate police staffing to keep our neighborhoods and families safe.

End Soft-on-Crime Sentencing:
There must be real consequences for criminal behavior. I will work to end downward departures in sentencing that let violent offenders off easy.

Protecting Your Tax Dollars
Stop Government Fraud:
Scandals like Feeding Our Future (FOF) happen when government oversight fails. I will demand strict safeguards so this massive abuse of tax dollars never happens again.

Enforce Project Oversight:
Multi-billion-dollar transit projects like the Southwest Light Rail (SWLRT) need strict fiscal roadblocks to stop runaway costs.

Distinguish "Needs" vs. "Wants":
Government must learn to live within its budget, just like Minnesota families do. I will advocate for bipartisan transparency and strong fiscal oversight across all state projects.
